Connor and Rosie – A Maplestead, Essex Wedding
Connor and Rosie got married in the beautiful little church at Little Maplestead. After the wedding it was off to their reception and boy did they go all out. WedFest was a festival style wedding reception that Connor, Rosie and their friends and family put together. Photographing their big day was a dream and these two are just the nicest people you could ever meet. I normally try and limit how many images I blog from a wedding, but I just couldn’t cut down the awesomeness of their big day. Enough waffle from me though, lets hear from Connor and Rosie
How we met.
Connor and I met online, in August 2013. I messaged him, and we exchanged numbers. He thought I was his mates winding him up! Our first date was at the really rather classy establishment of Wetherspoons! Where the football was on and Rosie got lost on her way to the pub!
Proposal story.
We had been to the Lake District with Rosie’s parents, on the Saturday we were having breakfast while Rosie’s Dad was loading his car ready for the drive home. Connor disappeared to ask his daughters hand in marriage. With Rosie being none the wiser, we left the Lake district. Rosie then noticed the sat nav said 2 hours to home, thinking something wasn’t right she questioned Connor and he said we wasn’t going home we were going to Edinburgh!! After an afternoon exploring, and a yummy dinner, we took a stroll back to the hotel. While wandering Connor said “I spoke to your Dad this morning” thinking this wasn’t anything to write home about, Rosie carried on looking around. There was Connor holding out a ring while saying those special words “will you marry me?
Venue
We chose the church because Rosie’s Great grandmother is buried there, Rosie’s brother (James) and Rosie were both christened there too. We love the church and its unusual design. We also loved how small the church was too. As for the reception, well were do I start… the field! This field means so much to us both. The owners have been family friends of Rosie for over 30 years, when Rosie was growing up it was always joked that one day she’ll have her wedding reception on the field. Throughout Rosie and Connors relationship they have attended several parties on the field.
Accessories.
Everything that was wedding decorations were made by a family member, from Tracy (Connor Mum) making decorations for the centre piece jars, to Sally (Rosies Mum) making lengths and length of bunting, Brendan (Rosies Dad) being very creative with wooden ll making a wedfest sign and photo signs Steve (connors step dad) Brewing a beer and James (Rosie brother) providing the sound system and being the lead singer and guitarist in Connor and Rosie favourite band.
We were very passionate about having everything that could be locally sourced, being so. The marquee was from a company in the same village as the wedding, the ice cream van was from 2 miles away, and the caravan style photo booth from the same town which Connor and Rosie live in.
Connor and Rosie are not comfortable being formally dressed up, so as far as outfits are concerned we didn’t really doing anything special.
Vision
The vision was simple a festival wedding, we wanted rustic, quirky and very laid back! From providing changing facilities, so our guests could get changed for the reception. To not having a sit down meal, and a bath tub full of drinks!! We chose turquoise for the colour scheme as Rosie is obsessed with that colour! The flowers has daisy in as there was loads of daisy’s in the field. We had two bands perform, Cassette Dog and Ella we felt these added to the festival theme and Cassette Dog got everybody on the dance floor.
First dance
Our first dance was how long will I love you by Ellie Goulding. Rosie watched the about time film and fell in love with the song while falling in love with Connor (cheesy naffness)
What would be your best advice to other couples planning their wedding
The best advice we can give, is to not worry what people will think. It is your day have it how YOU want it. And treasure the time, even the stressful build up of the planning. As the day soon comes around and before you know it, the day will be over.
